Unfortunately, our hospital firewall blocked us from Go To Meeting today so we could not speak. I regret to inform you that my position has just been eliminated and I will be leaving the health system very shortly. However, the department is intact and the manager of the program, Angel Pagan, will lead these efforts. So, I am absolutely delighted to have him assume my position as a participant in the CoP. He can share our experiences and our needs. Will you please substitute his email address for mine? It is angel.pagan at tuhs.temple.edu I know that this group will be able to use its energy to make a difference in quality going forward. I wish you all well and will stay tuned to Diversity Rx to learn about your successes. Warm regards, Deborah Deborah Caputo Rosen, RN, PhD. URL: From rcchc at aol.com Mon Dec 7 07:45:40 2009 From: rcchc at aol.com (Julia Puebla Fortier) Date: Mon, 07 Dec 2009 10:45:40 -0500 Subject: [Cop4] Congratulations on a great start! Message-ID: <8CC456B76BD2104-1E60-342E3@webmail-m056.sysops.aol.com> Dear colleagues-- I heard from Anne that CoP#4 got off to a great start on Friday, and that your exchange of professional stories and challenges was very stimulating. This is very exciting, and hopefully gives you a taste of the kind of interchange that the community of practice is designed to foster. We encourage you to continue your interaction with each other between meetings by using this listserv to share information with each other, offer and get support and advice, and really build a sense of community. Think of this as a limited time opportunity to talk to people who are having the same professional experiences you are. If you could sit down for coffee with someone who had your job, what would you talk about? What questions would you ask? What tips or challenges would you share with each other? A useful image to keep in mind: You?re sitting in someone?s living room, having chat with a bunch of people. Someone makes a comment or asks a question. After a few seconds pause, even if no one knows the 'right' thing to say, someone says something in response ? because if no one did, it would be dreadfully awkward and unsociable. Perhaps that inspires another comment, and then the conversation gets going. There is a great satisfaction from hearing someone else validate your experience, or offer a perspective you haven't thought of. A listserv is much the same ? although it lacks the face-to-face pressure of dead silence in a room. The moderator works to get discussions going--and CoP members are encouraged to start conversations too. Be attentive to when something gets posted, and watch if anyone responds. Some people will do so spontaneously because it hits a chord. But if you notice silence, try to contribute something ? a question, a resource, or something from your own experience ? successful or not. Let the conversation begin!
