I'd like to encourage you to use this listserv to continue your conversations between meetings. One monthly phone call never has enough time for everyone to fully express themselves... and that's why the listserv is such a terrific tool. Our Community of Practice on cultural competence training has used their listserv to pose day-to-day questions about work challenges, share useful resources, engage in more 'philosophical' discussions, and share events that are happening in their professional lives and ask for advice or even just support as they go into an important meeting. A useful image to keep in mind: You?re sitting in someone?s living room, having chat with a bunch of people. Someone makes a comment or asks a question. After a few seconds pause, even if no one knows the right thing to say, someone says something in response ? because if no one did, it would be dreadfully awkward and unsociable. Perhaps that inspires another comment, and then the conversation gets going. A listserv is much the same ? although it lacks the face-to-face pressure of dead silence in a room. It can be very disheartening for that person (or anyone else in the group) to start something and have no one respond. Be attentive to when something gets posted, and watch if anyone responds. Some people will do so spontaneously because it hits a chord. But if you notice silence, try to contribute something ? a question, a resource, or something from your own experience ? successful or not. We really encourage people to think of this as a limited time opportunity to talk to people who are having the same professional experiences you are. If you could sit down for coffee with someone who had your job, what would you talk about? What questions would you ask? What tips or challenges would you share with each other? It's easy to start: just send an email to _cop4 at diversityrx.org_ (mailto:cop4 at diversityrx.org) . If you see an email that comes from the listserv that you want to respond to, you hit reply in your email program, and your response goes automatically to everyone in the list. Give it a try!
